2019 Surescripts White Coat Award™

Keycentrix wins award for e-prescribing accuracy

Who is Surescripts™?

Surescripts administers the largest health information exchange in the country. Uniting virtually all electronic health records (EHR) vendors, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), pharmacies and clinicians, plus an increasing number of health plans, long-term and post-acute care organizations, specialty hubs and specialty pharmacy organizations.

In 2018, the Surescripts Network Alliance™ improved e-prescription accuracy by 14%—representing a 64% improvement since 2016. As a result, physicians and pharmacists spent less time exchanging phone calls and faxes to clarify prescriber intent.

How did Keycentrix™ win?

This year, in addition to honoring electronic health record (EHR) vendors, Surescripts expanded the White Coat Award to include health systems, pharmacies, and pharmacy technology leaders. This expansion better reflects the hard work the Surescripts Network Alliance partners are doing to improve the accuracy of e-prescriptions. Surescripts developed a scorecard and began tracking performance. There was no application or candidate submission. The top scorecards were finalists for the award and winners were announced at the Annual Surescripts Network Alliance™ meeting in Minneapolis, MN. Keycentrix™ was the only recognized pharmacy technology leader who serves independent pharmacies.

Why does this matter?

Pharmacists often serve as the go-between with doctors, insurers, and patients. In the real world, there are a ton of phone calls, emails, and faxes. So many faxes. As hard as they work, pharmacists can't be medical researchers or insurance specialists and this can — at times — lead to a patient walking away with no medicine.

This is a problem that can be solved. Technology companies that work in healthcare need to prioritize interoperability and trusted information exchanges. Companies like Keycentrix can change the outlook for many patients purely by focusing on technology that helps patients with timely and accurate information.

We are honored to be recognized with a White Coat Award, particularly because it showcases the devotion our employees have to patient safety.Luis Rodriguez | President, Keycentrix
